Web Based Lesson Plan

Topic: Online Shopping
Level: Form 4 (Intermediate)
Theme: Consumerism
Time: 70 minutes (2 periods)

Aims:
1. Teach students how to select and purchase goods from the internet
2. Introduce to students some of the vocabulary in fashion
3. Enable them to explain their choice of purchase and the characteristics of the outfit.

Learning outcomes:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:-
1. Choose their outfit based on categories, and place orders.
2. Understand and use some vocabulary in fashion to help them in the selection
3. Write a paragraph or several sentences to explain their choice of outfit and its characteristics.

Previous knowledge:
Students have already learnt how to use present tense and adjectives.

Educational emphasis: Multiple intelligences, ICT skills

Technical Requirements: Computers, stable internet connection.

Precaution: make sure no purchase was done by the students by accident.

Language Content: Text Reading, Writing, Categorising, language to obtain goods.

Procedure:
Set induction (10 minutes)
1. Teacher asks the students where they usually shop for their clothing.
2. Teacher checks students’ familiarity with online shopping by asking questions such as “what are some of the website that you know?” or “what medium do they use? Blog? FB?”
3. Teacher informs the class that today they will be learning about online shopping.

Activity 1 (20 minutes)
1. Teacher instructs the students to go to www.zalora.com.my on their internet browser.
2. The teacher introduces to them some of the vocabulary that is used in describing the type of clothing that are available on the website such as Flats, Kaftans and Sneakers.
3. To get better understanding on the types of clothing, students will then click on the link on the website to browse through the catalogue of the specific type.
4. The students were given time to analyse the catalogue and then they are called to tell to the whole class what are some of the characteristics of the type of clothing. For example, “Platforms has flat front soles” etc.
5. This exercise is repeated with other categories.

Activity 2 (20 minutes)
1. The teacher asks the students to select a few items from the website that they like.
2. After that, the students were asked to paste pictures of the items on Microsoft Paint and create a collage or editorial.
3. The instruction on how to do the collage is on this website (http://www.ehow.com/how_6717299_merge-multiple-pictures.html), which the students will need to open and read.
4. Then, they are asked to write several sentences or a paragraph describing one piece of the items they have chosen and later, present to the class what they have come out with.

Conclusion (10 Minutes)
1. Teacher asks the students what have they learnt today? how will it be beneficial to them?
2. Teacher then sums up the lesson and the class dismisses.

Follow up activity
Students should write a description of the other items that they have chosen in one paragraph for each item. Minimum description is four sentences and adjectives must be used to help in the description.
